Standing Seam or AG Style Metal Roofs

At Northern Michigan Metal Roofing, we specialize in installing metal roofing. We offer both standing seam and AG style metal roofing systems.

  • Standing Seam Roofing

Standing seam roofing offers benefits including durability and weather resistance. Properly maintained standing seam roofing can last for over fifty years! This system is able to withstand harsh weather conditions, and its concealed fasteners and interlocking seams prevent leaks, rust, and corrosion. It’s also an excellent choice for low-slope roofs. When you invest in low-maintenance and energy-efficient metal roofing, you’ll enjoy long-term savings. And the sleek, modern look of standing seam metal roofing will also enhance your property’s curb appeal!

  • AG Style Metal Roofs

“AG style” or “exposed fastener” roofs are usually used for pole barns, storage sheds, and other agricultural or residential structures. The metal roof panels overlap each other, creating a corrugated or ribbed design. Where the panels overlap, they are screwed together directly through the metal, making them weather resistant and highly durable. Affordable, versatile, and easy to install, AG style roofing can be used on a wide range of buildings and roof slopes.

In the end, the roof that best protects your home, agricultural equipment, livestock, or other property is the smart choice. No matter which one you choose, your metal roof will never fail you! At Northern Michigan Metal Roofing, we offer the highest warranties for both standing seam and AG style roofing, as well as our 2-year labor warranty!

The Residential Shingle Roof Installation Process

The Residential Shingle Roof Installation Process

Because of its affordability, durability, and weather resistance, asphalt shingle roofing is a popular option for homeowners in Northern Michigan. When an asphalt shingle roof is properly installed by a professional, you can expect it to last 25-30 years without worry! Read on to learn more about our installation process.

  • 1. Roof Deck

The wooden roof deck lies between the structural components of a roof, which includes the joists and rafters, and the insulation and waterproofing layers, including the ice and water shield, synthetic felt, and shingles. All the elements of your roofing system are placed on the roof deck, so if your deck is compromised, so is your entire roofing system! We always remove all roof components to expose your roof deck and inspect it for damage. If needed, we’ll make repairs to the deck to ensure that it is ready for the roof installation.

  • 2. Ice and Water Shield

Ice and water shields prevent damage caused by ice dams and wind-driven rain. Our team will install this self-adhering waterproofing underlayment directly on the roof deck, around all penetrations and in all valleys (where two slopes meet).

  • 3. Synthetic Felt

Our team will install synthetic felt over the entire roof to repel water. Made with a fiberglass or polyester base or saturated with a protective coating such as bitumen (asphalt), synthetic felt has a 600% greater tear strength than a standard 30-pound felt, offering your roof the ultimate protection while still allowing the product to breathe.

  • 4. Drip Edge

To keep water away from your fascia and prevent it from getting underneath your roofing components, our team will install a drip edge along the eaves, (the straight edges where your roof starts) and along the rakes (where the roof starts and is angled). This metal flashing protects your roof from damage by stopping water from seeping behind your gutters and rotting out both your fascia board and roof decking.

  • 5. Starter Strip

We’ll waterproof the eave and rake edges of your home using a starter strip, an asphalt-based shingle. Adhesive tar strips prevent shingles from blowing off, even during strong winds.

  • 6. Shingles

Asphalt shingles are typically composed of layers: a base mat, a layer of waterproofing asphalt, and a layer of ceramic granules. Many types of shingles are available, including fiberglass or organic shingles. We install shingles produced by only the very best manufacturers.

  • 7. Ventilation

Your roof needs proper ventilation to perform correctly. We’ll install roof vents to moderate the temperature in your attic or crawl space. By preventing a roof space from getting too hot or cold, you reduce moisture levels. This prevents mold from building up in the house and ensures that your roofing components can perform properly. Our final step in the process will be to ensure that your roof has the ventilation it needs.
